What is life coaching?

I care.

I am calm, non-judgemental and patient. I am interested in you and will listen to and support you in a safe space that you can trust.

I specialise in retirement, helping you to make sense of this new chapter, this unchartered territory. We can explore your must/could/might goals and how you can navigate the gap between here and there.

I took early retirement from full-time work to fulfil my own potential, initially training to be a psychodynamic counsellor, then moving into life coaching, as this forward-focused thinking is where my passion lies. I gain enormous satisfaction from partnering with people who are ready and willing to change, who just need some help to find direction, set suitable goals, surface solutions and plot an achievable path along the journey to success.

Whilst I'm not here to keep you accountable, I can assist you with this aspect and, in time, partner with you to find ways you can take over control and learn the discipline and commitment needed to stay on track.

I have over 30 year's experience in management, coaching and mentoring individuals and teams to develop and achieve their potential.

Why/when might you partner with a life coach?

Any aspect of life can be considered: career, relationships, family, health, wellbeing, personal growth, finances, relaxation, retirement… anything you want to consider and/or change.. Frequent crossroads that are brought to a life coach include:

  • Aspiring to a promotion or considering a career change

  • Gaining better work/life balance

  • Cultivating fulfilling relationships

  • Tackling difficulties

  • Navigating a mid-life crisis

  • Planning for retirement

  • Improving financial security

  • Enhancing health and wellbeing

  • Improving how you work together as a couple

Life coaching is a partnership with your chosen coach, giving you a safe space to think, clarify aspirations, brainstorm ideas and achieve transformative change by helping you find and navigate the path between where you are now and where you want to be.

Life coaching centres around the belief that everyone can achieve their goals through acknowledging and using their own resources, rather than being told what to do.

Unlike counselling and other therapies, life coaching is focused on your future. That said, there may be patterns we identify in past behaviours that we can address with strategies that employ your strengths, to avoid repetition and overcome obstacles.

While life coaching isn’t a substitute for therapy, it can help you overcome challenges, build self-confidence, strengthen relationships and achieve greater fulfilment. By focusing on goal setting, progress and self-awareness, coaching can empower you to make meaningful changes in your life.

Life coaching is not therapy or a substitute for it. While both a life coach and a therapist aim to improve well-being, they serve distinct roles. Therapists are trained to provide mental health care, while coaches focus on personal growth and professional development. Certified coaches complete training programs to help clients reach their goals but don’t provide clinical care.

Why choose me?

FAQs

Will you be able to give me advice?

Life coaching is not mentoring: coaches provide a safe space and time for you to clarify goals, to think about different ways to achieve these and what resources and support you might need. A coach may challenge your thinking by asking insightful questions or reframing a limiting belief, thereby prompting you to come up with options you had not previously considered. We look at possible obstacles and create actionable plans to enable you to move forward. That said, if it is appropriate and at your explicit request, I can offer a blended approach.

Is coaching therapy?

Coaching is not therapy; it doesn’t treat mental health issues, rather it encourages forward movement. That said, I do have some counselling training and may be able to help you identify root causes, patterns and themes to help you move forward.

What's the format?

We'll have a free 30 minute 'discovery call', during which we can both ask and answer questions to help us decide whether we want to proceed to working with each other. Not all coaches are equal and success often depends upon the relationship.

Once I know a little bit about you and what you want to work on, we can agree on the number of sessions, the frequency and duration. All this is flexible and you will not be locked in to anything you no longer want or need.

Who can benefit from coaching?

Anyone looking to change career; consider retirement options; improve health or wellbeing; enrich relationships with a partner, family, friends or colleagues... whatever the change you're seeking, you can find value in coaching.

Sounds great: how do I sign up?!

Use the contact form to write/message/call me and let's take that first step!

How much does it cost?

Our discovery call is free of charge. If we go ahead with the work, then sessions cost £50 for up to one hour. Discounts are available for packages of 4 or more sessions if paid up-front,
